Kindergarten Kapers

Kindergarten Kapers
Vol. 26

Well, a short week makes for a short Kapers, so here we go.

Jesus Time
We will finish up the account of Jesus healing the man who could not walk.  Memory for this past week was a review, so hopefully we can wrap that up on Monday and get busy on our next verse. (See below.)

Fit February
Hopefully we got some extra exercise out in the snow these past couple of days. This week we will complete our Food Stoplights.  Please remember to send in newspaper food ads for us to use.  Thank you.

Grandparents Day forms
On Wednesday your child brought home an invitation for Grandparents’ Day.  If you need more, let us know and we can get them to you. Please complete and return the yellow form that also came home.
On Monday you will receive a second form for Friday, March 8th.  Please note that they are not the same form!  Read carefully, complete and return as well.  Thank you.

Great Skate Event
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 5:30–7:30. Skate, socialize, and meet other Zion families.

Finally . . .
God’s blessings on your weekend as you rest, recreate, and worship… and shovel!

                     Yours in Christ,
                     Mrs. Cheryl Lail

Jesus Heals
This week we learned of the miraculous healing of a man who could not walk.  We learned that sometimes God heals miraculously; sometimes through doctors, nurses, and medicines; and sometimes not until heaven.  How wonderful to know that God heals us all of our sin-sickness by the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus.  Lent is a perfect time to reflect on that gift!

Fit February
Today we had our second nutrition presentation by Mrs. Nea. We learned about red, green and yellow light foods. Next week we will construct a paper traffic light to help us reinforce what we have learned about nutritional eating.  You can help us out with the project by sending in grocery ads from which we can cut the various foods.  Thanks!

Valentine Party
Thanks to Julie and a lot of helpful parents, we had a wonderful Valentines Party today.  Check out the photos below. A big THANK YOU to all who helped – either ahead of time or at the party.

Baby Bottles
The Baby Bottles were turned in at Wednesdays’ chapel.  Thanks to some very generous families, our class turned in three full bottles and a few baggies of coins.  What a blessing to adopting families!

Boxtops for Education
Boxtops are cheerfully accepted throughout the year, but for the classroom competition, please have them in no later than February 19th.

Yearbook Orders
Yearbook orders are due by February 20th.  Don’t miss out!

Kapers

Kindergarten Kapers
Vol. 24

Fit February
Today we had our first nutrition presentation by Mrs. Nea. We learned the importance of “eating a rainbow”, because the colorful foods God created contain healthful phytonutrients. (Think red apples, green broccoli, yellow peppers, purple grapes, et. – not artificial dyes.)  She challenged the children to try to eat a rainbow this week.

Chinese New Year
Today we celebrated the Chinese New Year by reading about it and trying out our own chopsticks!  See photos below.

New Classmate
Yes, again we are blessed to welcome a new classmate!  Brooke joined our class on Thursday and is fitting right in.  We welcome Brooke and her family with a big Bobcat Welcome!

Open House Sunday
This Sunday, 1-3 PM, bring your friends and/or neighbors to visit Zion and see what makes it a great place to be!

Valentine Party
This Thursday we will celebrate Valentines Day in the classroom, beginning at 2 PM.  All are welcome and help is appreciated.  Half-day students are invited (and encouraged) to return for the party.

Baby Bottles
The Baby Bottle project is sponsored by Lutherans for Life, and will assist couples who wish to adopt.  Our class has an awesome start due to come generous families. The bottle is past full, but we can certainly fill something else!  Our chapel offerings from last week and this week will also go to the Baby Bottle fund.

Sausage Making
Here is a unique way to spend Valentines Day and get to know some fellow Zion members.  Sausage-making takes place in Zion’s fellowship hall on Thursday.  See the Banner for details.

Ash Wednesday
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent.  We will attend chapel with the first through eighth graders, and have the opportunity to have the sign of the cross marked on our foreheads or hands. We will discuss it beforehand, but you may also wish to talk with your kindergartener about it.

Finally . . .
God’s blessings on your weekend as you rest, recreate, and worship.

                     Yours in Christ,
                     Mrs. Cheryl Lail

National Lutheran Schools Week
Thank you for the wonderful participa- tion in our NLSW events. It was an exciting, high-energy week and we had a lot of fun!

This week we heard the age-old account of Jesus blessing the children. What a comforting reminder of His love for each and every person, from every nation and walk of life!

PAK for February
This month’s PAK is a Valentine Box.  I hope you have fun planning, sharing ideas, and decorating your child’s box together.  The children will use their boxes to bring home their Valentines on Thursday, February 14th. Have Fun!

Fit February
During the month of February we will be focusing on staying fit and eating healthfully.  Mrs. Sheryl Nea will be our guest Nutrition teacher on three occasions, and will share some fun ways of thinking about the foods we eat.

A few of the children have recited their phone numbers and/or addresses.  Just a reminder… before your child is ready to recite, please send in the completed form I sent home . That is the form I test from and record on. Thank you!
