First FULL week in January

We wrapped up our learning about Epiphany this week. Like the Wise Men
followed the Star, we follow God's Word to Jesus!

We enjoyed making mosaic crosses for one of our memory art pieces.

We also sanded and painted wood pieces for an all-school project for NLSW!

It was a challenging week for weather...
Our playground was too wet most days,

So we played in and around the Bobcat Pit.

And a few times, nothing but indoor recess would do.

Fun with the Math Mat

Strengthening fingers with the "Grabber".

And Legos are always a hit!
Math was fun. We learned about greater and smaller numbers, using a number line for a visual. Then we used dot cubes to practice "adding on" when combining sets.

Putting 'Polar Words" together.

Calendar Time

This week's Plants Helper doing his job

And here are a few of our Learning Activities

January Chapel Offerings

During the month of January, our offerings will support the mission work in Cambodia which is organized by Lutheran Hour Ministries. Students in grades K-4 were given change boxes to collect their offerings this month. During National Lutheran Schools Week, students can bring these change boxes to chapel on Wednesday, January 24th. Through our offerings, we can help spread the word of Christ across the world!

Titus 2'sday

Girlfriend Gathering
Do you ever feel that your faith hasn’t been getting fed? Would you like to find time to connect with other women that you see at church or in car line?   Do you have so many responsibilities that keep you from your time in the Word?
We invite you to set aside an evening and/or morning just for yourself to feed your soul at our Girlfriend Gathering Women’s Conference hosted by the Women’s Network. This meaningful non-overnight event combines inspiring messages, fellowship with others, and a chance to rejuvenate and uplift your spirit.  Come with your loved ones, co-workers, and neighbors…all the special women in your life.
Ladies, you are invited to join us this year for “PHILEMON: Hearts Refreshed.”  The main purpose of this event is “To Encourage.”  It will be presented by our keynote speaker, Deborah Lein.  She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross in O’Fallon and transferred to Messiah Lutheran Church in Weldon Springs.  Deborah is a gifted speaker and has adventured her way around the world publishing Scriptures in many languages, secretly delivering Bibles to underground believers in Mainland China and most recently, distributing faith-building literature to every truck stop, rest area and homeless shelter encountered during a two-year trip of hitting all the states and all the national parks while living in her van.
Two "don't miss" highlights from this weekend's event are:
1. Hearing Deborah’s inspirational true life experiences and
2. Connecting with your sisters in Christ while discussing how to encourage others
Plan to join us as together we learn from God, our Father how to refresh the hearts of others and to enjoy Christian camaraderie with each other.  This event will be held in Zion’s Fellowship Hall on February 23-24, 2018.  Friday evening Deborah will give us an introduction to Philemon and we will enjoy dessert fellowship. Then come back on Saturday morning for breakfast and an enriching presentation by Deborah.  This will be followed by some great Table Talk.  Cost: Both days - $20, Friday or Saturday only - $10.

Happy New Year!

Snowflakes...

We read about 'Snowflake Bentley' and designed our own snowflakes.

We did word family star puzzles

Painted stars with watercolors and sea salt for this week's Memory Art

And of course it was good to get back to IDR
In math we tallied and graphed numbers rolled on a dot cube.

Write the Room is always a fun word game!

Journal time!

One of Mrs. Lail's favorite stories:
Katy and the Big Snow
by Virginia Lee Burton

Friday afternoon we played 'Follow That Star', which practices clapping syllables, Nativity Bingo, started a Cross Word Puzzle, and decoded words to match with pictures.

Concentration!

We had a few extra minjutes at the end of the day, so the boys played 'Go Fish' and the girls did a puzzle.
